how to dry brush
This time of self isolation is a time to slow down & focus on the presence of each and every moment. It’s so important now more than ever that we appreciate our bodies and all they do for us. This time is an opportunity to really prioritize your self care rituals. Taking moments of self care is one of the most effective ways to honor my body. I love to slather myself in jojoba oil before showering or give myself a peppermint oil neck massage. I’m sharing my favorite methods and products to encourage you to find time in your day to spend a few minutes on self care, after all self love is self care!
If you only take one tip away today let it be DRY BRUSHING, I’ve been doing this for years and it’s a total game changer! Recently I lost mine and didn’t have one for about 3 weeks and my arms were so dry I had patchy spots of scaly dry skin. I’m now back to starting my day with an invigorating brush before my shower. This practice has lots of amazing benefits like supporting the lymphatic system & reducing the appearance of cellulite. I use this dry brush, and I start at my feet working my way up in gentle, stroking motions. I brush towards my heart and clockwise over my tummy. With all the amazing benefits it’s my opinion that dry brushing is the best & most cost effective thing you can do for your skin!
We are all washing our hands more diligently than ever & using Purell. For my dry hands and cuticles I use Weleda Skin Food , it’s just the ticket to repair my chapped hands. I use the light version on my face too! The texture of this lotion is amazing, it’s not sticky and it absorbs quickly.
I’ve tried loads of self tanners over the years always in search of one with the perfect color that develops evenly, doesn’t smell awful, and is on the more natural side in terms of ingredients. Cocoa Glow tanning cream from Chocolate Sun is the winner! It can be subtle with one or two applications or more buildable to achieve a darker tan. It offers the perfect sun-kissed tan and has earned its place as a staple in my beauty cabinet!
When facial rollers first came into popularity a couple years ago I was immediately drawn to how pretty they are and I instantly had visions of how pretty they looked sitting on the bathroom counter. I have to admit I was drawn to the idea based on aesthetic alone but, when I purchased my own I quickly realized the value of this tool, beyond looking pretty in for an instagram pic. Facial rollers offer a lot of the same benefits as dry brushing, like lymphatic drainage and increased circulation. Facial rollers help soothe puffiness and can be put in the fridge for an especially invigorating experience. I personally love to use mine on my jaw because I tend to clench it and the roller relaxes my facial muscles. My favorite facial roller is made of rose quartz which is a crystal said to promote self love. Other popular facial rollers are made with jade or amethyst. Facial rolling is one of my favorite ways to take a moment for self care, I love adding affirmations in while I’m looking in the mirror too!
While we are all spending time in quarantine I challenge you to prioritize self care as a way to express gratitude for your body and your health. Look for the opportunities for presence and self love in this time of stillness. Above all simply love yourself in this time of many unknowns.
