Savannah Travel Guide
My husband and I moved to the Raleigh, NC in December 2016. We love living in the south for so many reasons. One of our favorite things about living in the south is the proximity to so many other awesome cities and states. We love to explore our new surroundings! So far one of my favorite southern cities has got to be Savannah! We have been twice and had the best time!
The old oak trees dripping in Spanish moss, the darling squares, awesome southern cuisine I mean it’s easy to fall in love with Savannah. This city combines a funky and eclectic art scene thanks to SCAD with classic southern charm. The juxtaposition is just delightful. I always look forward to making a trip to this romantic little southern city.
Where to Eat:
The Olde Pink House is the quintessential Savannah eatery and it’s our go-to dining experience. We’ve eaten at the bar and the dining room and while I prefer the dining room the bar is an alternative and serves the full menu. Treylor Park had a really fun casual vibe a great spot for tacos and cocktails. I loved the rooftop bar at the De Soto for great sunset city views!
Where to Stay:
I recommend staying in the downtown historic district. You will be in walking distance to all the best sights & restaurants Savannah has to offer. We’ve stayed in a few different places and my favorite has been the Mansion on Forsyth Park. It’s a beautiful property right on Forsyth Park. We loved walking through the park every evening on our way home from dinner.
What to do:
My favorite activity in Savannah is simply walking around the gorgeous tree lined streets and bopping from one square to the next. I also loved taking the historic trolley ride learning all about the history and the architecture of the homes. The trolley serves duel purpose as a hop on and hop off transportation around downtown. There are all kinds of unique art galleries and gift shops to peruse on Broughton Street my favorite shop is the Paris Market. We even dared to play tennis on a balmy summer morning but gave up after 20 minutes in the thick humidity. We visited in the summer and it was HOT, we spent lots of afternoons with a cocktail by the pool which was a life saver! I wish we would have made a trip out to Tybee Island, maybe during our next time.
